According to BERR statistics (Jan 2006), 95% of the 4.4 million Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the UK had fewer than 10 employees. These are Micro-Businesses and their needs are very different from SMEs, where a Small Business is defined as one that has a turnover of not more than £6.5m and not more than 50 employees.

More and more small & micro-businesses are started by women, so it is vital that their voice is heard and every help is given to them.

Part of the Conservative Women’s Organisation, C-WiSE has been set up to  support professional and entrepreneurial women in small and micro-businesses, to mentor new women entrepreneurs and to create opportunities for women to engage with issues that impact on their business lives. C-WiSE will create a platform for encouraging more women to choose to set up businesses and will engage with government about the challenges small enterprises face and what can be done to help.
